Wilkes–Barre Area School District is a suburban public school district located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
As part of a $121 million project that began last spring of 2019 and is expected to end before the 2021-22 school year begins. The district is building a new high school to merge the district’s three highs schools — GAR, Meyers and Coughlin — on a 77-acre former mining site between South Main and Maffett streets in Plains Twp.

The district operates 5 elementary schools, one junior high school and 3 high schools. James M. Coughlin Junior-Senior High School is the largest school in the district, housing more than 1,050 students (2010–11). Meyers High School houses 949 students (2010) and G.A.R has 1134 students (2011).
