With a vision in the late 1970s, then undeveloped wooded, mountainous area was identified to be an ideal location to create a new community offering recreation, activities, office sites and high end residential housing.  Land was acquired by various entities and a path was created to accomplish the vision.

Since the 1980s the Montage Mountain Ski Resort has been built and greatly expanded to now include a large outdoor concert venue and water park.  PNC Field, a 10,000 seat minor league baseball stadium, was built and is the home to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Railriders, the Triple A affiliate of the New York Yankees.  Glenmaura National Golf Course was built in 1993 and is considered to be among the top 100 in the state.  At the same time a retail community was built which includes a 20 screen Cinemax complex.  With its ideal location between Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, several office complexes were built attracting some national firms to the area.
